A local Jubo League leader was hacked to death by miscreants at Kaptai Upazila in Rangamati district on Monday.

Kaptai upazila`s Raikhali UP chairman Mankya Marma said the incident took place at night in Balukhali area under Raikhali union of the upazila.

It was known that the dead Jubo League leader Obaid Ullah, 43, was a vice-president of Raikhali Union Jubo League.

According to locals, on Monday night, Obaid Ullah was hacked to death on his way home after closing his shop from Karigarpara Bazar. Police and party leaders could not say anything about who is involved in this incident and whether there is any previous enmity.

Rangamati`s Chandraghona Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal said, `We have not yet received the political identity of the dead. He was hacked and injured in Balukhali area under Raikhali union around 10:30 pm.`

Later, he was rescued and taken to Chittagong Medical Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the OC added.

Kaptai Upazila Jubo League General Secretary Tanveer Siddiqui said, `We still do not know who is involved in the murder. We want justice for this murder.`
