Online Desk : A group of robbers targeted the homes of expatriates in Sylhet`s Osmaninagar upazila on Thursday night, injuring three people and making off with significant amounts of gold, cash, and foreign currency.
The victims include Anwara Begum, 60, and her son Hossain Ahmed, 22, from Latifpur village, and Siraj Mia, 40, from Madhabpur village.
According to locals, a gang of 12 to 13 robbers stormed the house of Mizanur Rahman, an expatriate from Latifpur. They severely injured Mizanur`s younger brother, Hossain Ahmed, hitting him in the head with an iron rod and locking him in a room. The robbers then attacked their mother, Anwara Begum, and looted six tolas of gold ornaments.
In another incident, a group of 7 to 8 robbers broke into the home of Mamun Ahmed, the son of Abdur Rob from Madhabpur. They stole 16 tolas of gold, cash, and foreign currency, including British pounds, amounting to approximately Tk 1 lakh.
The third robbery took place at the house of expatriate Ashiq Mia in Latifpur village. The house was unoccupied at the time, but the robbers managed to steal one tola of gold, Tk 1,100 in cash, and other valuables.
A team of police, led by Additional Police Superintendent Ashrafuzzaman, have visited the crime scenes and launched an investigation into the incidents. Authorities are looking into the details to identify the robbers and prevent future occurrences.
