  7, September, 2025, 4:40:56:PM

The government will resume the midday meal programme at government primary schools in 150 upazilas of the country in late September or early October.

Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder said this in a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday, September 7, on the occasion of International Literacy Day.

The government had earlier announced to reintroduce the midday meal programme at primary schools by January this year but it is yet to be implemented.

When asked about this, Bidhan Ranjan said they had prepared a DPP (Development Project Proposal) based on the BBS report and presented it at the ECNEC meeting as per rules. Later, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) unveiled a new statistics.

"Then, we were told to make a DPP following the new statistics. It took some time to make it again and pass," he said.

"We hope we can launch the midday meals at primary schools in 150 upazilas at the end of September or the beggining of October."

The meals include eggs, seasonal fruits, biscuits and milk, the adviser said.
