Global Warming - a looming threat to human existence
  10-06-2021

•           17 % people die from global warming.

•           Now Polar Bears on the list of extinction.

•           Natural calamities increasing worldwide.

•           Massive tree plantation may check the problem.

Global warming is on the rise making the world conservators worried about its dire consequences. But what can they do except for lamenting when different species of flora and fauna are facing extinction one after another?

The burgeoning population, the increasing atomic detonation and the excessive emission of carbon di oxide in the atmosphere have abruptly upset the ecological balance than ever, experts and scientists have said.

The fathomless heat and wastes that are coming off industries, factories and uncountable transports along with the extreme heat of bombs and cruise missiles of powerful countries have aggravated the situation further and brought the earth on the verge collapse.

Some world conservators have recently reconnoitered in the Arctic polar region and found the horrific damage to the ecology therein. They found that the polar ice is melting there very quickly, and with this thawing of ice, another valuable species of creature, the polar bears are going to vanish from this beautiful world.

Ice is the habitat for the polar bears. They make their houses making holes under the ice. But owing to the ice melting by the impact of global warming and unusual rainfall, another effect of global warming, their dens or dwelling places are being damaged killing polar bears and their cubs. Now they are unable to manipulate population, the conservators or environmentalists have found there by going over there in person.

Another rueful incident that the scientists have found there that the polar bears are drowning in the deep seas, albeit they are the best swimmers. This happens that the polar bears travel in the sea on huge shafts of ice during summer in search of food. They hunt by floating on the ice slabs and fatten their body to face the crisis period of winter when they have to go for hibernation. During this period of winter, the fat of their body provide them with the strength of food and makes them survive. This is their natural way of living in the Arctic polar region as destined by the Creator.

But due to global warming the big chunks of ice upon which the polar bears travel in the sea in search of food thaws beneath their feet in deep sea sans the least notion of the hapless bears. As a result, they are fallen into the fathomless deep sea and drown.

The polar bears are the best swimmers of the world, but what does it matter? Is it possible for them to defy the vastness of the ocean to swim across it? The consequence is that they get plunged into the dreadful seas and face premature death. This way valuable species of the Almighty’s creation is on the verge of extinct from this world unnoticed and unheard by most of us. Some of the world’s conscious conservators witnessed this somber picture with their own eyes during their tour to the Arctic polar region and reported it, which later became the headlines of the world media. An extract of this news was set as the reading material in the GSC O’ Level English Language Question Paper under the university of London a few years ago.

Thus world conservators have enlisted the name of polar bears as the most endangered species of the world. But merely is this consciousness and writing enough to address the problem? Healing in the root cause, the rising of world temperature must be brought under control. Many species of animals have, in the meantime, faced extinction and now polar bears are following their path. If this process continues, the turn of human being is not far away when they will face extinction like the polar bears.

More baneful effect of global warming is, a European team of conservators surveyed the southern belt of Bangladesh and proved that many areas of the southern part of Bangladesh are going under sea water. They also predict if this process continues then two-thirds of Bangladesh will go under sea water permanently. The western region of our country has already started showing a symptom of desertification due to global warming. This is not any pleasant news either. All these hazards are because of global warming now all and sundry knows for the truth.

The industrially advanced countries have, in the meantime, understood the dire truth which the global warming is wrecking all over the world. The UK had initiated to organize an emergency monetary fund with a view to extending it to Bangladesh, it was learnt. But should the lump sum money in the form of an aid dismiss the disastrous problem?

The entire world is now experiencing the baneful effect of global warming through perennial hurricane, cyclone, tsunami, avalanches, wild fire, earth quake etc.one after another that are occurring across the world. Nature is utterly perturbed than ever by the heat being released every moment to the atmosphere by nerve shattering weaponry that are being indiscriminately exercised in the war in Syria, Iraq, Afghan, Palestine and on. The onslaught of hurricane, unusual occurrence of tsunami, tidal surge and other calamities now the nature is rebounding unto us as the wages of our foolish act.

One thing we must bear in mind that the Almighty has created all things in the world keeping harmonious balance. Everything is closely interlinked with another. The harm to any thing has insidious effect to another albeit; we are unable to see that. The Creator says, “There has been many matter of instances in the creation of skies, the earth and in the rotation of day and night for the people who are sages, and who pronounce, Oh! our Cherisher and Sustainer, You have not created anything without purpose…” Now the global warming is the result of our foolishness.

Trees and plants, hills and mountains, rivers and oceans are continuously being damaged by reckless activities of humans every moment. Scientists are predicting fresh water will be the great challenge for humans in the days to come due to pollution and ecological damage. From one-celled organisms to the great whale—all are interlinked with each other like the web of spiders the damage to one affects others.

Oxgygen that keeps all living beings survive has an excellent chain with plants and trees. Today’s global warming is mainly caused by deforestation.

The further consequence of global warming is like this that the Arctic is a continent almost covered with ice. It is bigger than Australia, half as big as the continent US and 50 times as big as Britain. Here the ice is so thick and in some places it is up to 4.5km deep. 87% of all world fresh water is stored here. If this ice melts, the ocean will be 60 metre higher than they are now. As the scientists say, this ice melting fast due to global warming.

Another harm is being done to nature is the random uses of CFC gas. CFC gas has various uses in aerosols and refrigerators. This gas remains liquid in the can of aerosols but the pressure is released it becomes a gas.

Other uses of this gas are as cleaning solvents, like in cleaning electronic components and as blowing agents, for putting the tiny bubbles into insulating foam. It is also used in expanding plastic such as polystyrene.

This CFC gas is very stable and does a mischief in the stratosphere where life- saving ozone layer is. Up in the stratosphere CFCs break down releasing Chlorine. In cold winter above in the south pole in Antarctica in temperature below than 80 Degree C, atoms of Chlorine are formed. But when the sun returns to spring, the Chlorine becomes an ozone destroyer. The Chlorine atoms take an oxygen atom from ozone. Then it makes pair with another oxygen atom to create the normal oxygen molecules and reform the Chlorine. In this process the Chlorine atom can destroy thousands of ozone molecules.

Joe Farman, a British scientist for long 20 years launched a research in the Antarctic. He reported a hole above Antarctica in 1985. Experts thought this hole was as big as the United States and as deep as the height of Mount Everest. Through this depletion of the ozone layer, the high energy ultra violet (UV) from the sun might enter on earth.

Ozone layer prevents UV rays, and protects earth and her inhabitants. In this way if ozone layer is destroyed then who will save us? Who will save this beautiful earth? Annihilation will be the consequence. So, it is high time world people understood the reality and came to a conclusion in order to save humans’ existence.

The world leaders ought to forge unity to set up peace and harmony among countries. All countries should work unitedly to stop anti-natural activities by any nation
