  17-07-2024

The protesting students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Rajshahi University (RU) have confined their Vice Chancellors demanding withdrawal of the university`s closure notice.

On Wednesday at 10:00 am, the Jahangirnagar University authorities called an emergency syndicate meeting at the university`s registrar building, where they announced the closure of academic and residential halls, causing unrest among the protesting students.

Angered by the decision, the protesting students disrupted the syndicate meeting and confined Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nurul Alam including the syndicate members.

Students also vandalised the new administrative building on the campus after the university authorities made the closure announcement.

On the other hand, protesting students of Rajshahi University have besieged the administration building demanding withdrawal of the closure notice issued by the university authorities.

The students confined Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Golam Shabbir Sattar in the building around 2:45 pm.

They also demanded the withdrawal of the hall vacancy notice, the declaration of the university as a politics-free zone, the safety of students on campus, assurance that no cases would be filed against students, and the raiding of all dormitories to make them free of terror or weapons.
