Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh will formally unveil its reforms programs and election roadmap on next October 9, the party`s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said on Saturday (October 5).

Speaking to reporters after attending a dialogue with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus at the state guesthouse Jamuna in the afternoon, he said, "This interim government has not come to rule the country; rather, they have come to create an environment for voting. They have been given various reform programmes. Jamaat-e-Islami will also propose its reform on October 9. Reforms are more important than elections."

The Jamaat ameer said the nation hoped that the interim government would hold a free, fair and impartial election maintaining its neutrality. "We intend to give the interim government a reasonable time-frame to the government for reforms. We hope this period will not be too long," he said.

He said some basic issues needed to be reformed to hold the elections.

Addressing the journalists, he said, "We will unveil our proposals before the nation on October 9. We will present our thoughts to the nation, what reforms are needed at this moment and what reforms we need in the next phase."

"Jamaat wants reforms before elections. Reforms first, elections next," he said.

Earlier, a five-member delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami entered the Chief Adviser`s official residence Jamuna at about 3:30pm and held dialogue with the chief adviser and other advisers there.

The delegation included the party`s Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman, Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, ANM Shamsul Islam, and Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar.

Earlier, the BNP attended a dialogue hosted by the chief adviser at the state guest house Jamuna on Saturday afternoon.
