  Flood in 3 north-eastern districts: 10 die, 2.3 lakh people affected

Over 2.38 lakh people have been affected and 10 lives have been lost in a devastating flood that has swept across three districts in the northeastern part of the country recently.

Additional Secretary K M Ali Reza of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief shared the information during a press conference held on Wednesday.

Ali Reza noted that the floods have impacted the districts of Sherpur, Mymensingh, and Netrokona, with a total of 13 upazilas and 73 unions/municipalities inundated by floodwaters.


A total of 63,171 families remain stranded, and 138,391 people are directly affected by the disaster. Tragically, eight people in Sherpur and two in Mymensingh have lost their lives with the victims including eight men and two women, he said.

To provide relief to those affected, 140 shelters have been opened, currently housing 1,337 people and 561 livestock. Medical assistance is being provided through 20 medical teams operating in the flood-hit areas, said the additional secretary.

In terms of aid, Tk 72 lakh, 4,400 tons of rice, and 7,000 packets of dry food have been distributed. Additionally, 1.5 million BDT each has been allocated for baby food and livestock feed to assist the flood victims, he added.
