Police have recovered the body of a woman with her hands and feet tied, from an abandoned pond at Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj district on Wednesday.

The discovery of the body of Rekha Rani Das, 65, was wife of Gouranga Das from Bhartimvogh area of the same upazila, was made on Wednesday afternoon in Jainshar union`s Chainpara graveyard area.

Locals spotted the body in the pond and informed both the victim`s family and the police. Being informed, police arrived at the scene and retrieved the body, which was later sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy.

Sirajdikhan Police Station officer-in-charge Khondokar Hafizur Rahman reported that the body bore multiple signs of injury. Police suspect that Rekha Rani Das was suffocated to death and her body was dumped in the pond afterward.

Further legal action will be taken based on the family`s complaint after the autopsy results are received, he added.
