Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur on Tuesday clarified that his party has not formed an alliance with BNP, despite the BNP`s recent directive for its members to support Nur`s activities in the Patuakhali-3 constituency.

"We have not formed any alliance with the BNP, nor do we plan to share parliamentary seats or establish a national government with them. Gono Odhikar Parishad intends to field its own candidates in all 300 constituencies," Nur stated while speaking at a public reception organized by Barishal`s Galachipa unit of Gono Odhikar Parishad on Tuesday.

Nur, a former DUCSU vice president, explained, "All political parties united in the movement against Sheikh Hasina. However, after the movement concluded, BNP obstructed our organisational activities. Following our communication of these issues to their high command, BNP issued a press release instructing their members to cooperate with us."

Earlier, on October 22, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi issued a letter directing BNP leaders and activists to fully support Nur in his public and organisational activities in Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dashmina), a move that generated mixed reactions among local BNP members.

Nur further outlined his vision for a reformed political landscape, calling for a two-chamber parliament, proportional representation, and reducing the parliamentary term to four years to prevent any single party from monopolizing power and fostering authoritarianism.

The former DUCSU vice president later clarified his choice in Jatiya Sangsad election, saying, "Many speculated that I would run from Dhaka, but I cannot forget my roots. Growing up here, surrounded by this land and these rivers, it’s impossible to ignore this connection. If the people support me, I will contest from Patuakhali-3."
