  Nagorik committee holds views-exchange meeting with martyrs’ families in Barisal

(BSS) - Jatiya Nagorik Committee today hold a views-exchange meeting with the family members of martyrs and injured in the student-led mass upsurge, and the citizens from different professions in Barisal.

Family members of July movement’s martyrs and injured, student movement organizers of different districts, lawyers, doctors, teachers, activists, workers and members took part in the programme held at the auditorium of Barisal Bar Association in the city.

Nagorik committee central body member: Ariful Islam Adeeb, Dr. Mahmuda Mitu and Faisal Mahmud Shanta addressed the programme, among others, said a press release.

At the beginning of the exchange programme , Nagorik committee members welcomed the injured offering them flowers.

Martyrs’ family members and student movement’s leaders, in the exchange programme, emphasized on providing proper treatment to the injured, bringing the culprits of July massacre to justice and doing politics holding the spirit of the student-led mass upsurge.

Martyr Shaon Shikder’s brother Maruf Shikder said, “My brother sacrificed his life for the country, we want everyone`s rights to be guaranteed.”

“Everyone is now busy with serving their political purposes. No political party is taking any initiative or program for the injured or the families of the martyrs,” said Barisal BM College student Rahmat Ullah.

Belal Hossain, who lost an eye in the movement said, “My eyes have not yet been fully treated. I am the sole earner of the family, so it became very difficult for me to take care of the family.”

Nagorik Committee member Ariful Islam Adeeb said, “The major aspiration of the July mass uprising is for human dignity and justice. All citizens of the state must be guaranteed equal status.”

The killers involved in the July killings must be brought to justice, Adeeb said, adding, “I will not let the sacrifice of more than two thousand martyrs go in vain.”

Those who were injured and martyred in the movement did not want to be the rulers of this country rather they wanted people’s right to food, education, right to speak and live, said Nagorik committee member Faisal Mahmud Shanto

If anyone wants to do politics in Bangladesh in the future, they should do politics keeping in mind the aspirations of the martyrs of the July Uprising, he added.

Nagorik Committee member Dr Mahmuda Mitu who has been working on injured people’s care said, “The families of the martyrs and the injured are our first priority.”

Local student orgenisers Sabbir Hossain, Shahabuddin, Shakil Mridha and Abu Saeed were also present in the meeting.
