  Previous misdeeds will not return: DC

(BSS) - Newly joined Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the district Afia Akhter has said the misdeeds committed during the previous fascist regime will not return.


"Victory of the anti-discriminatory student movement has generated scopes for doing better for the society and the nation as a whole and we will do that," she said, while addressing an introductory and view-sharing meeting with journalists at her office conference hall here this afternoon.

Responding to a volley of queries and questions raised by the journalists the DC said all the issues will be brought under special considerations for welfare of the public in general in the district.

She said steps for bringing the markets under monitoring will be taken so that none can hike the price of essential commodities intentionally.

The DC sought all-out cooperation of the journalists for implementing their activities properly and successfully.

Earlier on November 3 last, the Rajshahi district got a female DC and District Magistrate for the first time in its 254-year history since 1769.

Afia Akhter joined Rajshahi as 127th DC. Prior to her new assignment, she was zonal Settlement Officer in Chattogram.

On December 16, 1769, the district was established and Mr CW Bawton Raus was given appointment as the first DC.

Born in Kotwali Thana in Jashore district, Afia Akhter obtained BA and MA degrees in the Department of International Relations at Dhaka University in 1998 and 1999 respectively.

After joining as an administration cadre officer through 25th BCS, her first posting was at Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner office as an assistant commissioner.
