BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the interim government to resolve issues and hold elections quickly as delays will worsen problems.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a rally in Chhagolnaiya of Feni, on Wednesday (Nov 20), organized to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Mirza Fakhrul said, "We have not said that we want to bring anyone into the election. This has not been reported correctly in the media. We said that the Awami League is a political party, and it is up to the people to decide whether they will hold elections or not. The people will decide who will participate in politics and who will not."
"The Awami League’s thugs have fled. The whole country needs to unite. A new government has started its work, but not everything can be done overnight. We said it would be better to hold the elections quickly," he added.
Special guests at the rally included BNP Standing Committee member Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Aini, Chairperson’s Adviser Professor Zainal Abedin, former MP Rehana Akhter Ranu, Chattogram Division Organizing Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, and National Executive Committee member Mashiuar Rahman Bipul.
