Activities of 74 courts in Chittagong have been closed for the second day on Thursday as lawyers go on strike to protest the murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif, a member of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association and Chattogram District Bar Association.
Wearing black badges, the lawyers have gathered on the court premises since this morning and held a protest rally demanding the arrest of Alif`s killers.
Meanwhile, members of Chittagong Bar Association did not attend any court proceedings for the second day, protesting the murder of lawyer Saiful, a former student of International Islamic University, Chittagong (IIUC), Premier University and Chittagong Law Colleges.
There were no litigants on the court premises this morning due to the lawyers abstaining from work, said eyewitnesses.
There was no hearing held in the courtrooms on Thursday, Omar Fuad, bench assistant of Chittagong Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, told media. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Mofizur Rahman said all proceedings of the Chittagong court were suspended due to the lawyers.
