A particular section of the interim government is trying to delay the election in the name of reforms, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandker Mosharraf Hossain has said.

But, delaying the election on the pretext of reforms will not be a wise decision for the interim government, he said while inaugurating the Cumilla divisional training workshop of BNP at Fun Town in Cumilla city on Tuesday morning.

"The more the election is delayed, the more the conspiracy will be widened," he said.

Dr Mosharraf said the interim government advisers are not the members of a political party. They are impartial. Somehow they have ascended to power. Some of them are trying to delay the election in the name of reforms.

"We said it will not be possible to carry out reforms unless an elected government comes to power. We believed that it will also not be possible for the interim government to carry out reforms in all the sectors. A government of the people is required to do these tasks. Because of it, election is imperative," he said.

The BNP Standing Committee Member said, "On behalf of BNP, we and our acting chairman extended support to the interim government after it came to power. This government ascended to power as a result of the anti-discrimination movement. It is expected that this government will create such an environment, in which, people will be able to exercise their rights. The voting right is the major right of people. So, we call upon the interim government to announce a roadmap for the 13th parliamentary election immediately after completing the necessary reforms."

The BNP leader further said: "We don`t want that this government fails. This government has the support of a major political party. If they fail, we will also fail. Country`s people will fail. The mass uprising will fail."

The formation of a political government through an immediate election is a prime expectation of the countrymen, said the BNP leader.

With Cumilla division BNP`s organizing secretary Principal Selim Bhuiyan in the chair, the workshop was addressed by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as the chief guest being connected from London virtually. BNP leaders of the six districts of Cumilla division participated in the workshop.
