  Victory Day celebrated in Ctg with enthusiasm

(BSS) – The great Victory Day was celebrated in the port city as elsewhere in the district today with much enthusiasm and imbuing with the spirit of the post-fascist regime.

This year’s Victory Day has drawn much importance and significance among people from all strata of life particularly among the freedom and democracy-loving ones as well as young community who had played vital role in uprooting fascist era of Sheikh Hasina through historic students-people uprising on August 5, which has ushered to build and reshape a “New Bangladesh”.

To mark the day, different organizations including Chattogram City Corporation, divisional and district administrations, Chattogram Metropolitan Police, political, socio-cultural, voluntary, and professional and trade organisations placed wreaths at the temporary Victory Memorial at Kattali DC Park in the city early this morning.

A large number of people from all walks of life started gathering at Victory Memorial from dawn to pay their homage to Liberation War heroes wearing red-and green colour headgears, national flags and carrying banners and placards. Some of the people who came to Shaheed Minar carried banners and placards. The Victory Day celebration began with an armed salute by a smart contingent of the city police.

Marking the day, Chattogram district administration took a day long special programmes.
Apart from the official programmes, political parties, its front organizations, socio-cultural and professional bodies organised rallies, discussions, cultural functions and milad mahfils as part of Victory Day celebration.

The programmes included placing wreaths at Victory Memorial, hoisting national flag atop all govt. buildings and important private establishments at dawn, and screening a film, based on the Liberation War without tickets in cinema halls and a documentary film based on the Liberation War in open spaces throughout the city and district.

The day`s programme was heralded with a 21-gunfire from the top the court hill at 12:01 am followed by playing of whistles simultaneously from the rail, steamer and vessel engines.

City Mayor Dr Shahdat Hossain placed wreaths at Victory Memorial early today followed by Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Dr Md. Zia Uddin, DIG of Police ( Ctg Range) Ashsan Habib Palash, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram, Farida Khanam, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hashib Aziz and Interim Committee of Chattogram Press Club, political parties and socio-cultural organizations.

Chattogram Press Club organized a discussion meeting at press club auditorium to mark the victory day.

District administration arranged daylong programme including discussion meeting at Shilpokola auditorium with Ctg DC Farida Khanam in the chair.

Besides, respective educational institutions organized colorful programmes including football and cricket tournaments, boat race and other traditional sports events throughout the city and district.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) took similar programmes including reception to the 132 Freedom Fighters at city Theater Institute hall this noon.

Chattogram city, north and south districts units of BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e- Islami and their different front organizations organized daylong programmes in observance of the day.

Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, jails, Shishu Sadan, orphanages and shelter homes.

Authorities of different educational institutions including Chattogram University, Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), University of Science and Technology Chattogram, (USTC), Premier University and Chattogram Govt. College also celebrated the victory day through elaborate programmes.
