  Major Hafiz, Altaf Chy among 84 acquitted from sabotage cases

BNP standing committee member major (Rtd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and vice chairman Alataf Hossain Chowdhury among 84 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat have been acquitted from three separate sabotage cases.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order on Monday as the allegations against the accused were not proved with adequate evidences and witnesses.

According the prosecution story, on June 6, 2011, one Borhan Uddin, owner of a bus, filed a case with Gulshan Thana accusing some pro-hartal activists for their alleged involvement in damaging his bus in Gulshan area.

On June 30 in 2014, Sub-Inspector Md Moniruzzaman Akond of Gulshan Thana submitted a charge sheet to the court accusing 10 people, including Major Hafiz Uddin and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury. The formal trial of the case began on September 12, 2017 through framing charge against them.

The same court on Monday acquitted six leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir from a case filed with Kafrul police station by Sub-Inspector Krishna Biswas on October 18 in 2015.

The court in another case of Jatrabari Thana acquitted 68 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat from a sabotage case filed on October 28 in 2013 by Jatrabari Thana Awami League president Md Faruk Hossain.
