Fortune Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal has been penalized with a demerit point and issued a formal warning for a breach of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Code of Conduct during his team`s match against Rangpur Riders on Thursday.

The incident occurred during the fifth match of the season at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium where Tamim was involved in a heated verbal exchange with Rangpur`s English batter Alex Hales.

According to match officials, Tamim was the more aggressive party, although Hales also responded during the altercation.

Match referee Neeyamur Rashid Rahul confirmed the penalty on Friday morning. Tamim accepted the charges under Level 1, Article 2.6 of the BPL Code of Conduct which relates to inappropriate and confrontational behavior. By not contesting the decision, Tamim avoided the need for a formal hearing.

The decision serves as a reminder for players to uphold the spirit of the game and maintain decorum during competitive matches.
