Online Report : BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that women`s rights are essential for peace, security, human rights and global progress.
"Every girl and woman in Bangladesh deserves to feel empowered and supported by those around them."
He made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account in observance of International Women`s Day.
On this day, Tarique said, "I reaffirm that, just like the previous BNP governments led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, we should all work tirelessly to create a just, tolerant, and respectful society that doesn`t discriminate based on gender, race, of religion."
He said all daughters in Bangladesh should have equal opportunities as the sons, and they should step outside their homes or use the internet without harassment, and take up space to use their voices without fear.
"Young girls and women across Bangladesh deserve to feel empowered and supported by those around them. Every woman must enjoy the same dignity, security, and opportunity as any man."
He mentioned that the three most important people in his life are his mother, wife and daughter--three remarkable women.
The BNP leader also shared photos of his mother and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and his daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman.
"I have always wanted every opportunity, success and happiness for them. I am sure many of you reading this can relate to the same feeling," the post reads.
Tarique said BNP`s policy formulation is deeply rooted in recognising the untapped potential of women in a safe and secure society, with initiatives like the party`s "family card" programme, SME loans for women entrepreneurs, academic and vocational schemes to educate young girls.
"Together, let`s continue to champion women`s economic empowerment, political participation, and personal aspirations," he concluded.
