  RWC launches on Int’l Women’s Day

The Revolutionary Women’s Council, the women’s wing of the National Revolutionary Council, made its debut on International Women’s Day, aiming to end torture, oppression, and deprivation while securing the rights and dignity of women in Bangladesh.

The organisation is spearheaded by Rotarian Rabeya Akhter and Ruby Begum, mother of Shaheed Rana Talukder who fought on the streets of Uttara, Dhaka, during the July uprising.

A statement announced that the group’s 23-member central convening committee was unveiled on Saturday evening at the Raju Memorial Monument on the Dhaka University campus.

The committee includes writer and publisher Sultana Akhter as adviser, Rotarian Rabeya Akhter as convener, and Ruby Begum as member secretary.

Additional appointments include Laili Begum and Nusrat Rahman as senior joint conveners; Khurshida Mamun, Tamima Zubaida, and Meherunnesa as joint conveners; Sharmin Jahan, Nasrin Akhter, Avni Akhter, and Suchi Kumkum Tripti as assistant member secretaries; Rabeya Sultana, Tahamina Akand, and Aftiha Jahan Amrin as coordinators; and Mosa Mahmuda Khatun, Zakia Zafarin Tanni, Zainab Ash Shifa, Maryam, Shahida Sultana Tamanna, Israt Jahan Jyoti, Tahmina Begum, and Shamsunahar Bithi as members.
