The physical condition of the nine-year-old girl, who was brutally raped in Magura, has further deteriorated, prompting her transfer to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for advanced treatment.

The child was moved from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to CMH on Saturday (March 8) afternoon.

DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Md. Faruk confirmed the transfer, stating that the child was shifted to CMH for better medical care. Earlier on Saturday, DMCH Director Brigadier General Md. Asaduzzaman reported that the girl’s condition had worsened, and a four-member medical board had been formed to oversee her treatment.

The child was admitted to DMCH in critical condition on Thursday night (March 6) and was later moved to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). By Friday night, she was placed on life support due to her deteriorating health.

Meanwhile, Magura Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Md. Mirajul Islam stated that the victim’s mother filed a case on Saturday afternoon, accusing four individuals of rape and attempted murder.

The accused include the victim’s brother-in-law, Sajib Sheikh, 18, her sister’s father-in-law, Hitu Sheikh, 42, mother-in-law, Jaheda, 45, and brother-in-law, Ratul Sheikh, 20. All four have been arrested and are being prepared for court proceedings, he said.

According to the case statement, the victim’s sister married Sajib Sheikh four months ago. Since the marriage, Hitu Sheikh had allegedly been making inappropriate advances toward his daughter-in-law. On March 1, the victim visited her sister’s house in Magura. On the night of March 6, Hitu Sheikh took advantage of an open door, carried the sleeping child to his room, and raped her. When the child screamed, he attempted to strangle her to silence her.

The victim’s sister discovered the child lying unconscious on the floor around 2:30 AM and learned of the assault. When she tried to inform the family, Hitu Sheikh and others confiscated her phone, assaulted her, and confined both sisters in a room. Neighbors, alerted by the child’s cries, rescued her and took her to Magura 250-bed Hospital. She was later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and then to DMCH.

Magura Superintendent of Police Mina Mahmuda confirmed that the victim’s mother filed the case, and all four accused named in the case have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
