The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has frozen the bank accounts of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and his wife, Sharifa Quader.
According to a letter issued by the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of NBR, all banks and financial institutions in Bangladesh have been instructed to comply with this order.
The move comes amid an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which launched a probe on March 20 into allegations against GM Quader related to extortion, nomination trade, and misappropriation of party funds.
GM Quader, a seasoned politician, has been elected as a Member of Parliament multiple times since 1996 and has served as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. He previously held ministerial positions, including Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Minister of Commerce between 2009 and 2014.
Further investigations into the allegations are currently underway.
