Former Member of Parliament from the then ruling Awami League and chairman of Bengal Group, Morshed Alam, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
He was detained on Tuesday night from the Gulshan area of the capital.
Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, Muhammad Tabibur Rahman, confirmed the detention and stated that Morshed Alam was apprehended in connection with multiple cases filed against him.
In addition to his role at Bengal Group, Morshed Alam also serves as the chairman of the private television channel RTV. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Noakhali-2 constituency (covering parts of Senbagh and Sonaimuri upazilas) in the 10th parliamentary elections in 2014. He was re-elected from the same constituency in both the 11th and 12th national elections.
Further details regarding the charges against him are yet to be disclosed by the authorities.
