Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Division Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul on Friday assured that the interim government is committed to addressing the ongoing challenges related to the shortage of judges and inadequate court logistics across the country.

“There is a crisis regarding the shortage of judges and logistical support. We have only recently taken office, and appointing judges takes time,” he said while speaking to journalists after inspecting land designated for the Chief Judicial Court in Bandarban.

“However, we will resolve these issues during our tenure.”

Dr Nazrul emphasized the government’s intention to ensure smooth judicial operations and highlighted that efforts are underway to address the longstanding constraints hampering the justice system.

Present during the inspection were Bandarban District and Sessions Judge Md Zamiul Haider, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Begum Zebunnahar Aisha, and Chief Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Siraj Uddin Iqbal, among others.

The law adviser also discussed ongoing deliberations about whether family court cases can be directed to arbitration. “The matter is under active consideration. No final decision has been made yet. If arbitration proves unfeasible, the cases will proceed through the courts. This could significantly reduce the burden on the judicial system,” he explained.

Following the site visit, Dr Nazrul participated in a views-exchange session on the district’s judicial infrastructure development at the District and Sessions Judge Court.

During the meeting, members of the Bangladesh Judicial Employees Association, Bandarban District branch, submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Adviser, outlining their concerns and recommendations.
