Model Meghna Alam has been shown arrested in a fraud case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station in the capital, involving allegations of using women to entrap foreign ambassadors. In the same case, her alleged accomplice, Md Dewan Samir, owner of Sanzana Manpower, has also been shown arrested and placed on remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia ordered both individuals to be shown arrested in the case following a hearing. Additionally, he granted a five-day remand for Dewan Samir.

Both suspects were produced before the court. The investigating officer filed a petition seeking to show them arrested in the case. Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki appeared for the state and argued in favour of showing Meghna as arrested.

During the hearing, the prosecutor stated that the accused had formed a syndicate using deceptive tactics to honeytrap foreign nationals, including ambassadors and embassy officials, extorting large sums of money. He alleged that the group had been engaged in such fraudulent activities for a long time, with their most recent target being the Saudi Ambassador Essa bin Yousef Al Duhailan, from whom they allegedly demanded $5 million.

The judge then inquired whether the accused had any legal representation. Meghna Alam replied, “We don’t have any lawyers.”

She sought permission to speak and, upon being allowed, said, “The Saudi ambassador is being discussed. My question is: can just anyone meet the Saudi ambassador? Can any of you go see him?”

The judge interrupted and asked if she had anything specific to say regarding the case.

Meghna responded, “I have been sent to jail without justice. I was told I wouldn’t be allowed a lawyer. The only relationship I had was with Ambassador Essa—no one else. I married the Saudi ambassador Essa. He accused me of terminating a pregnancy, which is absolutely untrue. I spoke to him directly and asked him not to spread such information. I also spoke to Foreign Ministry DG Shafiqul about these matters. Right after that, the police arrested me.”

Meanwhile, Dewan Samir told the court, “They are calling me Meghna Alam’s boyfriend. That’s false. I have no relationship with her. I’m just an ordinary man. I was abroad for a long time—I’m a remittance fighter. I have no knowledge of these alleged incidents.”
