online Desk : At least 11 people, including three children, were killed early Saturday when a residential building collapsed in a northeastern district of New Delhi, an area home to many migrant workers.

Emergency crews worked throughout the day to recover survivors from the rubble. Eleven people were rescued and taken to hospitals, with five still receiving treatment, according to NDTV.

Prime minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow on X, offering condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured a quick recovery. President Droupadi Murmu also mourned the tragedy, calling the loss “very sad.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse, though the area is known for unregulated construction and overcrowded housing.

Delhi minister Kapil Mishra blamed local municipal officials for allowing unsafe and illegal structures to continue unchecked. “A survey of these buildings is urgently needed, and strict action must be taken,” he posted on X.

Eyewitnesses said the four-storey building collapsed suddenly, with local media describing it as falling “like a stack of cards.” Building collapses remain a recurring issue in India, particularly in densely populated urban neighborhoods with lax building oversight.
