  24-04-2025

A Dhaka court has denied bail to model Meghna Alam in a case involving fraud and extortion filed with Dhanmondi Police Station.

Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman issued the order on Thursday after a bail hearing.

According to court sources, Meghna’s lawyers, Mohsin Reza, Mahima Bandhan and Barrister Sadman Sakib, argued that the allegations were baseless and intended to defame her.

They pleaded for bail on humanitarian grounds, citing her gender and offered to accept any conditions imposed by the court.

Earlier, on April 17, another court formally recorded her arrest in the case.

The case alleges that Meghna, along with Dewan Samir and two to three unidentified individuals, is part of a fraudulent syndicate that targets foreign diplomats and wealthy businessmen in Bangladesh. The group allegedly uses attractive women to lure targets into romantic or illicit relationships, later extorting money by threatening to expose them.

Dewan Samir is reported to be CEO of Kawai Group and owner of Sanjana International, a manpower agency. He previously operated another business, Mir I International Event Management Ltd.

Investigators allege he recruited women as brand ambassadors to gain access to high-profile individuals.
