  612 killed in road accidents in March: BJKS

A total of 612 people were killed and 1,246 injured in road accidents across the country in March, according to the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS). The information was revealed in a press release signed by the organization’s Secretary General, Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, on Thursday (April 24).

During the same period, 34 people were killed and six injured in 40 railway accidents, while eight accidents on waterways left 18 dead and one injured. In total, 641 accidents occurred across road, rail, and waterways, resulting in 664 deaths and 1,253 injuries.

The statement also noted that 251 people were killed and 208 injured in 227 motorcycle accidents alone. These account for 38.27 percent of total accidents, 41.1 percent of total deaths, and 16.69 percent of total injuries.

Dhaka Division witnessed the highest number of road accidents in March, with 148 incidents resulting in 150 deaths and 364 injuries. In contrast, Barishal Division recorded the lowest number of road accidents — 31 incidents resulting in 31 deaths and 86 injuries.
