A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Chief Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Mohammad Manjur Ahsan, and his wife, Mosammat Nargis Khanam, in connection with corruption allegations.

Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Monday following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The court’s decision was confirmed by ACC’s Public Relations Officer, Akhtarul Islam.

According to ACC, the petition was filed by Anisur Rahman, an Assistant Director of the commission.

The petition stated that an inquiry is currently underway against Mohammad Manjur Ahsan for allegedly acquiring illegal wealth through corruption and embezzlement of public funds.

The petition further noted that credible sources indicated a risk that the accused individuals might attempt to flee the country to avoid legal proceedings. Such a development could severely hinder the ongoing investigation. In light of this concern, the ACC requested the court to prohibit their departure from Bangladesh to ensure the integrity and progress of the inquiry.

Upon reviewing the petition, the court granted the travel restriction to prevent any obstruction to the investigation.
