Online Report : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has announced heightened security across Bangladesh’s border districts, placing police superintendents on high alert to prevent the possible infiltration of militants or terrorists amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of Bangladesh Police Annual Shooting Competition 2024 in Dhaka’s Gulshan-1 on Wednesday, IGP Alam stressed the importance of safeguarding national security and stability during this volatile period.
The move comes in response to India’s recent Operation Sindoor airstrikes on early Wednesday, which targeted alleged terrorist hideouts in Pakistan. Islamabad has strongly condemned the attacks, claiming they resulted in civilian casualties.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced “deep concern” over the situation, calling on both nations to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through diplomatic channels.
“Bangladesh is closely monitoring developments and urges all actions to support regional peace,” the ministry stated.
Additional IGP Md Mustafa Kamal and other senior police officials were present at the ceremony.
Authorities in Dhaka have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring national security and preventing any spill over effects from the escalating conflict.
