A Dhaka court has ordered to freeze shares and BO accounts linked to Salman F Rahman, former advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, his son Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman and their associates.
The order was issued on Wednesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleges involvement in share manipulation, embezzlement of thousands of crores through fraudulent placement shares, illicit bank loans totaling approximately Tk 36,000 crore and money laundering.
The court froze shares in 94 companies and 107 BO accounts, including 28 owned by companies associated with Salman and 79 in his personal capacity.
In a separate order, the court also seized 26 immovable properties and three vehicles belonging to former Jashore-6 MP Shaheen Chakladar. His 16 bank accounts and 315,000 shares were frozen. His wife, Farhana Jahan Mala, had 110,000 shares and three vehicles seized.
According to the ACC, Chakladar amassed assets worth Tk 42.46 crore beyond known income sources through abuse of power during his tenure as upazila chairman and MP. Investigators also flagged suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 341.61 crore across 29 bank accounts.
The ACC stated that urgent action was necessary to prevent transfer or concealment of illegally acquired assets during ongoing investigations.
