Ishraque urges continued protests for 2 advisers’ resignation
  22-05-2025

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has once again called for the resignation of the advisers to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports — Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain and Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam.

He instructed party leaders and activists to continue the movement and not leave the streets until both advisers step down.

Ishraque issued the directive in a post from his verified Facebook page on Thursday (May 22) afternoon.

In the post, he wrote: “I will tell the protesting brothers that radishes may tame donkeys, but not us. The struggle will persist until news emerges of the two student representatives stepping down from their advisory roles. Do not leave the streets — expand the movement further.”

The BNP leader gave these instructions shortly after the High Court dismissed a writ petition seeking to halt the effectiveness of the Election Commission’s gazette declaring Ishraque Hossain as the elected mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

Following the court order, lawyer Kaiser Kamal said: “The High Court has summarily rejected the writ petition. This means there is no longer any legal bar to administering the oath to Ishraque Hossain as mayor.”

Upon hearing the news, BNP leaders and activists participating in the ongoing protest expressed joy and excitement.

Earlier, on Wednesday morning, Ishraque had also called for the resignation of Advisers Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam in a Facebook post.
