Online Report : Two children drowned while playing in a waterbody in Cox’s Bazar`s Teknaf upazila on Friday.

The incident happened at Bara Lechuaprang area of Hnila union in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Jannat Ara, 8, daughter of Mohammad Abdullah, and Mohammad Faruk, 10, son of Ziaur Rahman, both residents of the same area.

According to locals, several children were playing in the waterbody. The duo, at one point, drowned there.

Hearing screams of other children, nearby locals rushed to the spot and rescued Jannat Ara and Faruk, who were found floating.

Later, they were taken to a local clinic where on-duty doctors declared them dead upon arrival.

Confirming the matter, Teknaf Model Police Station officer-in-charge Muhammad Gias Uddin said that they were looking into the matter.
