A Dhaka court has sentenced three people to life imprisonment and acquitted four others in the murder case of Italian national Cesare Tavella, an official of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ICCO Cooperation, who was killed in Gulshan nearly 10 years ago.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday (3 July) by Sheikh Samidul Islam, the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka.
The convicts sentenced to life imprisonment are Tamjid Ahmed alias Rubel, Russel Chowdhury, and Minhajul Arefin alias Bhagne Russel.
Those acquitted include BNP leader MA Kaiyum, his brother Abdul Matin, Shakhawat Hossain, and Sohel.
On 28 September 2015, Cesare Tavella, 50, was shot dead by miscreants at the end of Road 90 in the diplomatic zone of Gulshan.
