Bangladesh maintained their winning momentum in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Football Tournament by defeating Bhutan 3-0 in their fourth match on Thursday.
Due to unfavourable weather conditions and an unsuitable main venue, the match was shifted to practice ground of Kings Arena.
With this victory, Bangladesh has won all four matches and leads the points table with 12 points.
Nepal follows in second place with 9 points from an equal number of matches. If both Bangladesh and Nepal win their upcoming matches, their head-to-head encounter on July 21 will effectively become the tournament’s unofficial final.
Bangladesh took an early 1-0 lead in the first half, dominating possession and attacking play.
Bhutan tried to equalize in the second half, exerting maximum effort. Bangladesh missed a penalty but later secured two more goals, ensuring a comfortable victory.
In the previous match held two days ago, Bangladesh also defeated Bhutan 4-1.
That match was split into two halves played at different times on the same day.
Bangladesh led 1-0 at halftime with a goal from Shanti Mardi. Bhutan quickly equalized early in the second half, but Shanti Mardi completed her hat-trick by scoring two more goals, sealing Bangladesh’s 4-1 win.
