Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-15) have arrested a Myanmar national along with 3,40,000 yaba pills during an operation at Sabrang union under Teknaf upazila in Cox`s Bazar district on Thursday afternoon.
The arrested individual has been identified as Md. Omar Siddique, 28, son of Mohammad Osman, a resident of Shikhe Kharangkhali village in Rakhine State`s Mongdu town.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from RAB and BGB conducted a raid at the Keora Bagan area near the Naf River`s switchgate area and arrested the man with the large consignment of drugs.
The commander of Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion, Lt. Col. Md Ashiqur Rahman, confirmed the information during a press conference held at the battalion`s conference room. He was accompanied by RAB`s Assistant Superintendent of Police, A M Faruk.
Lt Col Ashiqur Rahman said that legal action is being taken against the seized yaba and the arrested suspect.
In a separate statement, Police Inspector (OC Investigation) Himel Roy of Teknaf Model Police Station confirmed that a case is being registered against the individual for drug smuggling and illegal entry into the country.
