  Fifty Underprivileged Men and Women to Receive Free Cataract Surgery in Manikganj

Kamrul Hasan: The Lions International Club, a globally recognized humanitarian service organization, has once again demonstrated its deep commitment to serving humanity in Manikganj. The club has announced a remarkable initiative to provide free cataract surgeries to 50 underprivileged men and women from various parts of the district. Residents have praised the effort as a “life-changing humanitarian initiative,” bringing hope and restored vision to those suffering for years.

The announcement came during an emergency meeting held on Saturday (20 November) at the office of Lions International Club, Manikganj District (315A3). The meeting was presided over by the club’s president, Rafiquddin Bhuiyan Habu, former organizational secretary of the District BNP and a member of the district BNP’s convening committee.

Club leaders stated that the initiative aims to ensure basic healthcare rights and extend medical support to those who are financially incapable of accessing essential treatment.

President’s Statement

Speaking at the meeting, President Rafiquddin Bhuiyan Habu said:

“Learn, Lead, Serve — based on these three principles, Lions Club continues its humanitarian mission worldwide. We are committed to upholding the same values here in Manikganj. Beyond cataract surgeries, our goal is to bring meaningful change to the lives of the underprivileged. We stand beside those who cannot afford treatment — this is our promise.”

He further added that the club plans to expand its healthcare, educational support, and social welfare activities in the future.

Among those present at the meeting were: General Secretary Kobirul Islam Kobir, Vice Presidents Mohammad Shahin Mia (Hasin) and Mohammad Sadid Hossain Saddam, Treasurer Saiful Islam (Siddiq), Advisory Council Member Rustam Uddin Bhuiyan Babu, LCIF Coordinator Wahed Ali, Service Chairperson Mohidul Islam, Marketing & Communications Manager Moin Uddin Ahmed, Club Administrator Sahiduzzaman Sahed, and members Abdur Rashid, Saifuddin Ahmed Saif, Abdur Razzak, Abdul Razzak, Habibur Rahman Khan, along with beneficiaries and local community members.

Operation Schedule

The club announced the dates for the operations:

22 November: First phase – 13 patients

25 November: Second phase – 37 patients


A total of 50 individuals will undergo free cataract surgery following necessary examinations.

Previous Major Health Initiative – 18 October

It is worth mentioning that earlier, on 18 October, the Lions Club organized one of the largest community medical outreach programs in Manikganj at the 88 No. Government Primary School. The day-long program included:

Free cataract screening
ENT treatment
General medicine consultation
Diabetes screening
Dental treatment
Blood donation campaign
Free medicine distribution
Distribution of clothing to over a hundred impoverished families


This initiative was one of the most extensive humanitarian healthcare programs conducted in the district in recent years.

The Lions Club’s continued humanitarian work has created a strong positive impact across the community. The initiative to restore eyesight for financially struggling individuals has received widespread appreciation. Many believe that the Lions Club, Manikganj branch, is emerging as a “pillar of support for the underprivileged.”
