Fatema Siddiqua, JnU: Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Jagannath University unit on Tuesday protested the renaming of ` Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman High School ` at Mughultuli in Dhaka South City Corporation, terming it is an act of `dirty political practice` of ruling Awami League government.
Around 10:00 AM, under the banner of "Jagannath University Chhatra Dal", a faction of JnU JCD led by JCD leader Kazi Zia Uddin Baset, Mahbub Hossain Sazzad, Sumon Sarder, Zafor Ahmed held a protest rally on the campus condemning the recent move of renaming of the school which started from science faculty of the university. The JCD leaders alleged that a chase and counter chase took place between BCL and JCD activists when the rally reached to the main gate of the university.Though no one injured in the incident. Condemning the move of renaming of the school, JCD leaders said that the ruling government is trying hard and soul to erase the name of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman getting scared of Zia’s immense popularity.It is easy to change the name of the school, but it is totally impossible to erase the name of Ziaur Rahman from the heart of people of the country. They threatened for tougher movement if the previous name of the school is not restored. Another group of JCD JnU unit led by Mehedi Hasan Himel and Abid Kamal Rubel also staged demonstrations protesting the same move of the government on Tuesday morning in old Dhaka`s Raysaheb Bazar area. Meanwhile, on 25 March of 2006, then elected meyor of Dhaka City Corporation, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, established the `Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman High School` at an initiative of Dhaka City Corporation.
