A Dhaka court on Monday imposed a ban on former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque and seven others from leaving country in connection with a corruption case.

The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which is investigating allegations of fraud in the allocation of a 10-katha plot by the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK).

According to the case statement, the accused allegedly obtained the plot by providing false information and through collusion, allocated a previously cancelled plot in Khairul Haque’s name despite lacking legal authority.

The accused also allegedly waived Tk 474,420 in interest, violating the terms of the plot allocation notice.

The ACC argued that there is credible information suggesting the accused may flee abroad, which could hamper the investigation and access to crucial records. The court found the travel ban necessary to ensure a fair and effective probe.

Those barred from leaving the country include former RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md Nurul Huda and several former RAJUK members and senior officials.

Earlier, on August 6 last year, the ACC filed the case against Khairul Haque and the others on charges of corruption and abuse of power.
