Bogura to be Developed as One of the Country’s Major Aviation Hubs: Minister Afroza Khanam
  07-05-2026

Kamrul Hasan : Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita MP has announced that Bogura will be developed as one of the country’s major aviation hubs, focusing on the economic growth, connectivity, and export potential of the northern region.

She said that plans are underway to establish Bogura as a new center of the country’s aviation sector through the construction of an international-standard airport, a modern pilot training center, and a cargo facility.

The minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists after inspecting Bogura Airport on Thursday (May 7) morning. On the occasion, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, led by her, visited the airport area on-site using a special helicopter of the Bangladesh Air Force.

During the inspection, Afroza Khanam said that, under the direction of the Prime Minister, a long-term development plan has been undertaken for this promising region of northern Bangladesh. She stated, “Bogura will be transformed into one of the country’s major aviation hubs.

The people of Bogura are truly fortunate, as this major initiative of the ministry is being launched from here.”
The minister further said that, under the plan, an international-standard airport will be constructed in Bogura along with a 10,500-foot-long runway, enabling both domestic and international aircraft to land smoothly.

A modern cargo facility will also be developed, which will bring new momentum to the agricultural products, industrial goods, and export trade of the northern region.
She added that although northern Bangladesh has long been considered a region of great potential in terms of communication and industrialization, the lack of modern aviation infrastructure has prevented it from fully realizing that potential. Once implemented, this initiative will position Bogura not only as a regional communication hub but also as an important center in international trade and the aviation sector.

According to official sources, a pilot training academy is also planned as part of the airport expansion project. This is expected to create new opportunities for producing skilled pilots and aviation professionals in the country. At the same time, the introduction of cargo facilities will significantly benefit the agro-based economy and export sector of northern Bangladesh.

Upon the arrival of the high-level delegation led by the Civil Aviation Minister at Bogura Airport, they were warmly welcomed with floral greetings by the Bogura District BNP.

Present on the occasion were State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat MP, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam MP, Bogura District BNP President MP Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha, Acting General Secretary MP Md.
