Xinjiang Unveils New Roadmap for Industrial Transformation and Modernisation
  10-05-2026

International: China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has announced a new industrial development roadmap focusing on green growth, low-carbon transformation, and emerging industries under the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan.

The announcement came during a special press conference held on Saturday, May 9, on the launch and development priorities of Xinjiang during the new planning period.

Officials stated that Xinjiang will take advantage of its growing industrial strengths to implement leading projects aimed at upgrading industrial quality and accelerating the development of emerging sectors such as the low-altitude economy and advanced materials. The region also plans to strengthen the rapid formation of modern industrial clusters.

Erkin Tuniyaz, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Chairman of the regional government, said Xinjiang would utilise its advantages in green electricity generation to promote industrial transformation and make green and low-carbon development a defining feature of the region’s economic growth.

According to the plan, Xinjiang will focus on three major sectors.

First, in equipment manufacturing, the region will expand its advantages in areas such as power transmission, power transformation, and renewable energy equipment production while improving industrial support capabilities.

Second, in the low-altitude economy, authorities will encourage the broader use of low-altitude aircraft and drone technologies in logistics, cultural tourism, agriculture and forestry protection, and emergency rescue operations.

Third, in the field of advanced materials, Xinjiang aims to accelerate the development of industries related to high-purity aluminium, electronic aluminium foil, silicon-based materials, carbon fibre, and basalt fibre, with the goal of moving toward higher value-added production.

The region also plans to prioritise future-oriented sectors including artificial intelligence, bio-manufacturing, and green hydrogen-based energy technologies in order to strengthen competitiveness and establish a more self-sufficient industrial structure.
