| Moin Mahmood : On the occasion of the 78th founding anniversary (Engineers Day) of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), a seminar titled "Roadmap Towards 10000 MW Solar Power, 2030" was held at the Council Room of IEB in Ramna today at the initiative of the Dhaka Center.
The Minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of the Government of the People`s Republic of Bangladesh, Bir Muktijoddha Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, MP, was present as the chief guest at the event. Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin - former Member of Parliament and Convener, A.B., Engineer A.N.H. Akhtar Hossain - Chief Advisor, A.B. and Professor Dr. Engineer Md. Sabbir Mostafa Khan - Honorary General Secretary, Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
Dr. Engineer Md. Ziaur Rahman Khan - Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, (BUET) presented the keynote address at the seminar.
In his speech as the chief guest, Minister Bir Muktijoddha Iqbal Hasan said that the government is aware of the global energy problem. The previous fascist government has left the energy sector dependent on imports. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken a multi-faceted plan to overcome the energy problem of Bangladesh.
He also said that we need to change our perspective. Nothing will happen by threatening. Incentives should be given to homeowners. Municipal Corporations should be told - `If you install solar, the tax will be reduced. If you do not install solar, the tax will be increased several times.`
The event was presided over by the Honorable President and Chairman of IEB, RAJUK Engineer Mohammad Riazul Islam (Biju). The welcome speech was delivered by the Chairman of IEB, Dhaka Center, Engineer Md. Helal Uddin Talukder. The program was moderated by Engineer KM Asaduzzaman, Honorary Secretary of IEB, Dhaka Center.

At the event, various problems of solar power and various guidelines for overcoming them were discussed. Moreover, various aspects of the necessity and potential of solar power to meet the electricity shortage were highlighted in the speech.
