| International: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting in Bishkek on Monday afternoon, Kyrgyzstan time, while attending the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in the Kyrgyz capital.
President Xi Jinping noted that President Putin had successfully paid a state visit to China in May. “We have planned, from a strategic height and with a long-term perspective, to elevate relations between the two countries to a higher quality and higher level, and have reached consensus on deepening China-Russia cooperation under the new circumstances. Relevant departments of both countries are actively implementing the consensus and have already achieved many results. Exchanges and cooperation between the two countries have maintained strong momentum of development. I believe that under our strategic guidance and through the joint efforts of both sides, the foundation of China-Russia relations will become stronger, our steps will become more solid, and the future will become brighter.”
President Xi Jinping stressed that, in today’s world, changes unseen in a century are accelerating, while uncertain and unpredictable factors in the international situation have increased significantly. However, the aspirations of peoples of various countries for peace, development, cooperation and win-win outcomes have not changed. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization bears an important responsibility for maintaining regional stability and promoting regional development. China is willing to work with Russia and all other parties to jointly discuss the organization’s development plans, support its stable and long-term development, strengthen its role in leading the reform of global governance, and build greater strength for advancing an equal, orderly and multipolar world.
President Putin said that in the face of an unstable and complex international situation, Russia and China have continuously deepened comprehensive strategic cooperation, maintained equality, mutual trust and mutual support, and rapidly expanded cooperation across various fields. Russia-China relations have become a model of international relations.
Russia is willing to maintain high-level communication with China, strengthen cooperation in trade, energy, industry, transportation, science and technology, and deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so that relations between the two countries can continue to achieve new accomplishments.
Through the joint efforts of all parties, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has developed into an internationally important, influential, dynamic and efficient platform for regional cooperation. Russia and China should continue to strengthen solidarity and cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and play a leading role.
Russia is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China within multilateral mechanisms, including the United Nations, the BRICS process and the G20. Russia also expressed its readiness to support China in successfully hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Informal Meeting and to work together to safeguard world peace, stability and prosperity.
The two heads of state also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.
