Mijanur Rahman Akanda, Phulpur: Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner S.M. Humayun Kabir Sarkar made a daylong visit to Phulpur upazila on Wednesday, inspecting several government offices and development activities and attending programmes aimed at improving public services and protecting the environment.

During the visit, the commissioner inspected the Phulpur Upazila Parishad office, Upazila Health Complex, Phulpur Police Station, municipal office and an educational institution.

He was welcomed with flowers at around 10:30am by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sadhana Tripura, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Municipal Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Phulpur Police Station Firoz Hossain, and Upazila Health Officer Dr Rahat Chowdhury.

As part of an environmental protection initiative, the commissioner later visited Shyampur Unit Beel, a designated water body in the upazila, where he planted and distributed 1,000 forest and fruit-bearing saplings.

He also inspected Love Chattar in Phulpur Municipality and formally inaugurated a newly developed bus bay, aimed at improving traffic management and creating safer and more organised arrangements for public transport users.

In another programme focused on improving healthcare services, the commissioner inaugurated the distribution of an electric generator and 10 ceiling fans allocated to Phulpur Hospital with financial support from the municipality.

He also distributed essential goods and humanitarian assistance among 14 members of the third-gender community in the municipality.

A number of local BNP leaders were present at the programmes, including Upazila BNP Convener Alhaj Siddiqur Rahman, Municipal BNP Convener Md Aminul Haque, Upazila BNP Joint Conveners AKM Sirajul Haque and Qudrat Ali, Municipal BNP Member Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Mostafa, Senior Joint Convener Tozzammel Haque Rubel, Joint Convener AKM Sadekul Haque, and Upazila Jubo Dal President Sanowar Hossain Khan, among others.

Officials from different government departments of the upazila, as well as leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations, also attended the programmes.

The commissioner’s visit brought together government administration, local representatives and community stakeholders, with emphasis on public service delivery, healthcare, environmental protection, civic facilities and humanitarian support.
