887 shelters prepared to tackle cyclone ‘Dana’ in Satkhira

In anticipation of the potential damage from Cyclone ‘Dana’ and to ensure the safety of lives and property, a total of 887 cyclone shelters and evacuation centers have been prepared in Satkhira district. These shelters can safely accommodate 443,500 people. Additionally, the leave of government officials and employees working in Satkhira has been canceled.

This information was shared during an emergency meeting of the district disaster management committee held in the conference room of the Satkhira deputy commissioner on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed stated that the district administration has already taken all necessary preparations to combat the cyclone. For disaster management, food worth 500,000 taka, children’s food worth 500,000 taka, 800 metric tons of rice, and about 700,000 taka in cash have been stockpiled. Fire services, ambulances, and volunteers have been instructed to be on standby for rescue operations during and after the disaster.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed and included the presence of Deputy Director of Local Government Mashruba Ferdous, Major Ishtiaq Hasan of the army on duty in Satkhira, Additional District Commissioner Moinul Islam Moin, Additional Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman from the Sadar Circle, Executive Engineer Md. Salauddin from the Water Development Board, and Upazila Executive Officer Shoaib Ahmad, among others.
