Bangladeshi expat killed in airstrike in Lebanon

A Bangladeshi expatriate was killed in an airstrike in the Hazmieh area of Beirut, Lebanon, at 3:23 pm on Saturday (local time).

The deceased, Mohammad Nizam, aged 31 years and 11 months, son of Abdul Quddus, was a native of Kharera village in the Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut confirmed the death in a condolence note published on its Facebook page on Sunday, stating, “With deep sorrow, it is being announced that Bangladeshi expatriate remittance warrior Mohammad Nizam, aged 31 years and 11 months (passport number: EF0620043), was killed in an airstrike on November 2, 2024 (Saturday), at 3:23 PM, while at a coffee shop on his way to work in the Hazmieh area of Beirut.”

The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Lebanon, Air Vice Marshal Abdur Rahman Khan, expressed deep sorrow over Mohammad Nizam Uddin`s death, prayed for the forgiveness of his departed soul, and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family members.

Md Moniruzzaman, Chairman of Kharera Union Parishad, told Jago News that Mohammad Nizam had gone to Lebanon 12 years ago in search of livelihood. His elder brother confirmed that he was killed when a bomb exploded while on his way to work on Saturday. His body is currently being kept in a morgue there.
