ICT asks IGP for Interpol red notice to arrest Hasina
  12, November, 2024, 2:06:48:PM

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), requesting steps to issue an Interpol Red Notice for the arrest of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other fugitive Awami League leaders abroad.

The letter, sent on behalf of ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam, was issued on Sunday (November 9). The ICT disclosed the matter to the media on Tuesday (November 12).

Earlier, on November 10, after inspecting renovation work at the old ICT building, Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul stated that the government is seeking Interpol’s assistance to repatriate Sheikh Hasina and other fugitives accused of genocide.

At that time, Nazrul mentioned that the government was disregarding a complaint filed by the Awami League with the International Criminal Court (ICC), which he claimed was intended to tarnish the country’s reputation. He added that the complaint had no grounds for acceptance.

Nazrul further clarified that the submission is not a lawsuit but a petition to the ICC`s Prosecution Office, noting that anyone in the world can file such a petition. He described the case as "incredibly baseless and lacking objectivity" and asserted that there is no basis for filing a writ on it. He alleged that the move was a tactic by “fascist groups” to mislead global opinion and the people of Bangladesh, as well as a means to spread false propaganda for self-defense.
