Shipping, Labour and Manpower Ministries adviser Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has said that the next general election is likely to take place in the middle if 2026 after necessary reforms.
He revealed it while speaking at a conference titled" Destroying Democracy in Bangladesh and Rescuing It" at the House of Lords of the UK Parliament on local time Tuesday (November 19) evening.

The participants discussed the political and human rights situation in Bangladesh before and after August 5.
M Sakhawat Hossain said the general election is likely to take place in the middle of 2026 after necessary reforms. It will depend how the reforms would be applied after giving a roadmap after receiving recommendations for reforms. Then it will be discussed with political parties.
The adviser said: "Though major political parties in Bangladesh seek election, they insist on taking time to carry on reforms, because the reforms which the interim government will be able to do, political parties will not be able to do."
Bangladesh-born British politicians, journalists, lawyers and human rights activists among others were present.
