Two-day information fair inaugurated in Rangpur

(BSS) - A two-day Information Fair- 2024 was inaugurated here on Sunday afternoon under the slogan "Power of information, we will know, we will inform, we will prevent corruption."


The district administration and Socheton Nagorik Committee (Sonak) jointly organized the fair at the Rangpur Public Library ground in the city.

Thirty-five government and non-governmental organisations have set up their
respective stalls in the fair.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal inaugurated the fair by releasing
balloons as the chief guest at a function organized there on this occasion.

Rangpur Sonak President Dr Swasswato Bhattacharya presided over the function.

Fair 2024 Implementation Committee and Sonak Convener Advocate AAM Munir
Chowdhury, TIB Coordinator Md Atiqur Rahman and Yes Group Sonak Student
Representative Taslima Akhter Meem were present as special guests at the
event.

The chief guest said that information is the lifeblood of democracy. The
right to information is a fundamental right of the people.

"The government has enacted the Right to Information Act to empower the
people, establish transparency and accountability, prevent corruption,
integrate sustainable development and good governance," he said.

All government and private departments should voluntarily publish information
on their respective websites, so that service recipients can visit the
website and get the information they require.

Regarding ensuring service delivery, he said the people of the country are
the source of all power. Ensuring service to the people is one of the
responsibilities of all government employees.

After the discussion, a public hearing was held at the fair on the service
delivery process of different departments.
