DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to explore strategic investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s port and logistics sector.
The meeting was held on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna in the capital.
The high-level meeting follows up on earlier discussions held in Davos, where the DP World chief expressed interest in investing in the New Mooring Container Terminal in Chittagong. The proposed initiative aims to reduce congestion, improve efficiency, and lower carbon emissions at Bangladesh’s busiest port.
Describing Bangladesh as a "land of opportunities," Chief Adviser Prof Yunus welcomed DP World’s investment plans and called for broader collaboration across emerging sectors.
“Come to Bangladesh, and let’s make this happen,” he told the visiting CEO.
Sultan Bin Sulayem reaffirmed his company’s long-term vision for the country: “Your prosperity is our prosperity. From Chittagong to Dubai to Africa—this is our shared dream.”
Prof Yunus invited DP World to also explore investment in fisheries, agro-processing, and halal meat exports, while emphasising the need for skill development in Bangladesh’s workforce.
“It’s our responsibility to ensure proper training for our workers, and we will make sure it happens,” he said.
The DP World chief responded positively, adding that visa facilitation for skilled Bangladeshi workers is being actively addressed by the UAE authorities.
He also unveiled plans to launch a “Bangladesh Mart” in the UAE, showcasing local products such as wood, marble, and agricultural goods, modeled on similar initiatives for Chinese and Indian exports.
Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi noted ongoing efforts to resolve general visa challenges for Bangladeshi citizens, expressing optimism for a breakthrough.
The meeting also revealed that two UAE-based companies have recently hired nearly 500 Bangladeshi workers, reflecting growing economic ties between the two countries.
DP World, headquartered in Dubai, is a global leader in smart logistics and port operations, with a strong footprint across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed was also present during the discussions.
