Home Affairs Adviser, retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, stated that the general public wants the current government to remain in power for at least five more years.
He made the comment on Thursday afternoon during a visit to Shantiganj Police Station in Sunamganj district while speaking to journalists.
"The activities of our law enforcement agencies have significantly increased and will continue to improve. Police are working actively to prevent the misuse of firearms. Anyone attempting to disrupt public order is being brought under the law. The situation is steadily getting better, and people want this government to carry on its leadership for at least five more years," said the adviser.
In response to a question regarding the return of Sheikh Hasina, he mentioned that Bangladesh has an agreement with India concerning the handover of criminals. "Under this agreement, efforts may be made to bring her back. There is no threat of war with India," he added.
Regarding agriculture in the region, the adviser said, "We`ve heard that this year`s harvest in Sunamganj has been good. However, some lands remain uncultivated. To address this, we`ve initiated a development project worth around Tk 500 crore to utilize the fallow lands in the area."
During the visit, several high-ranking officials were present, including Sylhet Divisional Police Commissioner Khan Mohammad Rezaunnabi, Sylhet Range DIG Md Mushfequr Rahman, Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Dr Muhammad Elias Mia, Superintendent of Police Tofayel Ahmed, Shantiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sukanta Saha, and OC Akram Ali.
